One of the things that seems to be synonymous with healthy eating is a salad. As a matter of fact, having the salad is a much better food choice than many of the fast food choices that we have glaring us in the face on a daily basis. Not only is it relatively low in calories, they can also be quite delicious if they are made in the proper way. One thing is for sure, salads do not need to be boring and many of them are actually quite extravagant. Whenever you get down to it, however, exactly how healthy is the salad that you are eating?
One of the things that needs to be taken into consideration whenever you make a salad are the different ingredients that are involved. Typically, it is various vegetables and perhaps some fruit that will be added to the salad in order to give it additional flavor. Of course, the fruit does not always need to be included. There can be a hidden danger here, however, that you may not be thinking about. If you are not using organic fruit and vegetables whenever you’re making a salad then you may be ingesting just as much poision from the salad as she would be from eating a hamburger. Of course, many individuals wash their vegetables before they use them but this only cleans the vegetables on the outside, not only inside where many of the pesticides reside.
Another thing that needs to be taken into consideration is what you put on top of the salad in order to flavor it. Exactly what kind of dressing do you use on your salad? Many individuals think that they are doing themselves a favor by going with a low-fat salad dressing but nothing could be further from the truth. These low-fat dressings tend to be full of salt and other ingredients which may be very bad for us. Often, the small amount of fat that you get from a salad dressing is inconsequential compared to the health damages of fat free dressings. The best thing that you can do is to make your own organic dressing. Not only is it delicious, it is nutritious.
It is always a good idea to eat a salad on a daily basis. Make sure, however, that you are starting out with the right ingredients and topping it with something healthy. Your body will be much healthier as a result.
